Jean-Claude Van Damme Denies Allegations Amidst Criminal Investigation
Jean-Claude Van DammeJean-Claude Van Damme, the renowned action star known for his roles in films like "Bloodsport" and "Kickboxer", has found himself at the center of a legal storm as he faces accusations related to sex trafficking. Reports indicate that a criminal complaint has been filed with the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), alleging that Van Damme engaged in sexual activities with women who were victims of trafficking.
The allegations stem from an event that was reportedly organized in Cannes, where Van Damme was in attendance. According to the complaint, five Romanian women, alleged victims of a criminal organization headed by Morel Bolea, were presented to Van Damme as a "gift". The women, described as photo models from Romania, were reportedly in a vulnerable state and allegedly exploited by the organization.
Van Damme's agent, Patrick Goavec, has strongly refuted the allegations, labeling them as "grotesque and non-existent". In statements to various media outlets, including People and Fox News Digital, Goavec asserted that the accusations are "absurd" and that Van Damme does not wish to engage in fueling rumors. He emphasized the unfounded nature of the claims against Van Damme.
Adrian Cuculis, an attorney representing one of the alleged victims, has stated that a young woman who witnessed the events in Cannes came forward with information, prompting DIICOT to initiate a criminal investigation. He added that the women involved were exploited and that the case forms part of a larger investigation into trafficking rings operating in Romania and beyond.
The case is set to be reviewed by the High Court of Cassation in France, which will decide whether to authorize criminal proceedings. The investigation is part of a broader effort by Romanian authorities to combat human trafficking, including the trafficking of minors, with Bolea allegedly at the center of these operations.
In response, Morel Bolea has dismissed the accusations as "fake news" and denied any connection with Van Damme, while DIICOT and representatives for Van Damme have not provided further comments.
As the legal proceedings continue, the case highlights ongoing global challenges in addressing and dismantling human trafficking networks, with high-profile figures occasionally becoming embroiled in such serious allegations.
