Contrary to earlier speculations about salary disputes, Harrelson clarified the genuine cause for his decision in an exclusive statement to The Daily Beast.
The 63-year-old actor was reportedly in line to portray either Frank, a character ultimately played by Sam Rockwell, or Rick, played by Walton Goggins. Harrelson explained, "I was set to do 'The White Lotus' and very excited. Unfortunately, their production schedule shifted and conflicted with a pre-planned family vacation, forcing me to make an extremely hard decision".
This revelation came after persistent rumors suggested Harrelson attempted to negotiate his salary, a claim that has been firmly denied by the actor and his representatives. The executive producer of the series, David Bernard, has emphasized the show’s egalitarian pay structure. "Everyone is treated the same on 'The White Lotus'. They get paid the same, and we do alphabetical billing, so you’re getting people who want to do the project for the right reasons", Bernard stated.
Harrelson further commended Rockwell's performance, saying, "Things must be meant to be though because I couldn’t have done as fantastic a job as Sam, who is killing it". The series, known for its satirical take on affluent vacationers at luxury resorts, continues to garner attention for both its storytelling and unique production practices.
